Chapter 13

After the shower, Chase carried Harmony back to his bed and rubbed all her aching muscles before turning her in his arms so her head was on his chest.

The fact she didn’t want his marks on her was her decision, but he didn’t like it. His fingers ran up and down her spine. The green colors had stopped swirling, and she was now only one color.

“Tell me about her.”

Every muscle in his body tightened and the thought of fleeing was in the forefront of his mind. She must have noticed because her hand pressed down on his chest, as if that could keep him from getting up and running off.

“You don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t want to. I’m only trying to get to know you.”

He still couldn’t bring himself to speak of Alana to another woman, or anyone, really.

“Let me start. My parents were killed in a plane crash, then…”

She went silent, so he kissed the top of her head, letting her know she could take as long as she needed.

“My sister was taken by a vampire.” Those words must have short-circuited his brain, because he couldn’t move.

She didn’t say anything else as she waited for him to say something.

Did she think it was him who took her sister?

Vampires were like any other species. There were good and there were bad in every nest or with every loaner.

“I’m sorry you lost your parents, and about your sister.”

“I can tell by your tone you didn’t like something I said.”

“Do you feel like I had something to do with your sister or parents? And you’re only in my bed to get answers from me?” he asked.

She sat up, bringing the sheet with her to cover her perfect breasts. “I don’t think you had anything to do with the plane crash that took my parents’ lives.”

“But you think I took your sister?” He could feel the heat rising all the way up to the tips of his ears. His hand fisted the gray sheets.

She was shaking her head before speaking. “I don’t know who took her. I don’t know who it was, but I thought maybe if you knew the whereabouts of other vampires, maybe you could help me find her.”

So she was using him? He thought maybe she felt the same connection he did. The connection which meant they were fated, but maybe it was all in his head. Something he wanted so badly, maybe he manifested it in his own mind.

He couldn’t spend time in bed with her. He was so fucking stupid. He should have seen this coming. Getting up, he shoved his legs into a pair of sweats, made his way to the portrait, and ran his grease-stained finger over Alana’s cheek. What was broken in him that females only wanted to use him?

“It’s a little ego crushing when you get out of bed with me to stroke your ex’s face.”

He sighed, then turned back toward her. “And it does little for my ego when you don’t want my marks on you, or you only fucked me so I’d help you find your sister.
